Sevilla triumph:

MADRID: An early goal by Frederic Kanoute of Mali gave UEFA Cup champion Sevilla a 1-0 win over Getafe in the final of Spain’s Copa del Rey on Saturday. The win allowed Sevilla to add a third cup this season to its trophy room having taken the European Supercup 3-0 against FC Barcelona, and been the first club in more than 20 years to retain the UEFA Cup when it beat Espanyol 3-1 on penalties. Sevilla played a Copa del Rey final for the first time since 1962 when it lost 2-1 to Real Madrid. Before that Sevilla had won 3-0 against Sabadell in 1934, 6-2 against Racing de Ferrol in 1939, and 4-1 against Celta Vigo in 1948. — AP

Jankovic upset:

DEN BOSCH: Ivan Ljubicic won his first grass-court championship on Saturday, beating unseeded Peter Wessels of the Netherlands 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-6 (4) in the final of the Ordina Open. Third-seeded Anna Chakvetadze of Russia upset top-seeded Jelena Jankovic of Serbia 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-3 in the rain-affected women’s final of this Wimbledon warmup. It was the second title of the year for both Ljubicic and Chakvetadze. Second-seeded Ljubicic, who is ranked 13th in the world, got an unexpectedly tough challenge from Wessels, who never dropped his serve. Wessels is ranked 488th and was seeking only his second title in an 11-year career. —AP
