Young Hearts win

LALITPUR: Young Hearts defeated Alpha’s School 36-17 in the opening match of the first Lalitpur District-wide Basketball Championship. In all, 12 teams are taking part in the league-cum-knockout tournament which has been organised by Lalitpur Basketball Association. Thaksin bids £81.6m

LONDON: Thailand’s ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra launched a takeover bid on Thursday for Manchester City, valuing the English Premiership football club at £81.6 million. The offer was worth the equivalent of 121.5m euros or $162.6m, including debt, according to a joint statement from Manchester City and UK Sports Investments, Thaksin’s takeover vehicle. — AFP

Tharanga injured

COLOMBO: Sri Lankan opener Upul Tharanga injured a foot and has been ruled out of the first two Tests against Bangladesh compounding problems to secure the top order. Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary Kangadaran Mathivanan said Tharanga will miss the first two Tests in the series of three Tests and three ODIs. — AFP
