Collingwood hits ton

CHESTER-LE-STREET: Paul Collingwood’s unbeaten hundred steered England to a first innings lead in the fourth and final Test against the West Indies on Monday. At tea on the fourth day, England were 341-7 in reply to West Indies’ 287, a lead of 54 runs. Collingwood was 115 not out and Stephen Harmison on one. Collingwood, together with Matthew Prior (62), added 169 for the seventh wicket after Ian Bell fell cheaply to leave England in trouble at 165-6. Fidel Edwards had figures at tea of 5-88. England resumed on 121-4, with Andrew Strauss 72 not out. Strauss only added five to his overnight score. — AFP

Jankovic triumphs

BIRMINGHAM: Jelena Jankovic won her fourth title of the year beating Maria Sharapova 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the final of the grass-court DFS Classic. Both players had to win semi-final matches earlier in the day at the rain-affected tournament. Sharapova had two matches on Saturday. — AP
