ADB defend title

KATHMANDU: Agriculture Development Bank (ADB) defeated Kumari Bank 25-21, 25-15, 25-19 to defend the Inter-bank Volleyball Tournament on Friday. The winner and the runner up received Rs 40,000 and 25,000 respectively while the third-placed Machhapuchhre bank got Rs 15,000. Mohan Chaudhary of ADB was declared the best player of the tournament. — HNS

Lalitpur beat Nuwakot

KATHMANDU: Amir Akhtar and Kritartha Shakya led Lalitpur to a 123-run victory over Nuwakot in the Shikhar Regional (Kathmandu) Cricket Tournament on Friday. Lalitpur piled on 222-8 in 50 overs with Akhtar scoring 88. Rom Shrestha took three while Dipendra Pudasaini claimed two wickets for Nuwakot. In reply, Nuwakot were all out for 99 in 30.2 overs. Rom fought lonely with 62. Kritartha bagged four and Karun Ojha three wickets for Lalitpur. — HNS

England in charge

LEEDS: England captain Michael Vaughan was on the verge of scoring a hundred as the hosts took charge of the second Test against West Indies on Friday. At tea, on the first day, England were 222-2 with Vaughan 92 not out and Kevin Pietersen unbeaten on 53. Vaughan earlier put on 53 for the second wicket with Alastair Cook (42) after the loss of Andrew Strauss (15).— AFP
