Kathmandu beat TU

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu defeated TU by five wickets in the opening match of the Region No 3 Shikhar Regional Cricket Tournament. Batting first, TU were bowled out for 114 runs in 31.1 overs. Skipper Prem Raj Upreti top-scored with 32. Kalam Ali, Abhay Rana, Raju Basnet and Raj Shrestha took two wickets each for Kathmandu. In reply, Dipendra Chaudhary scored a half century as Kathmandu reached the target losing five wickets in 20.2 overs. Federer, Nadal in final

HAMBURG: Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal both rallied to win their semi-finals on Saturday and set up a showdown between the two top-ranked players for the Hamburg Masters Championship. Federer beat Carlos Moya 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 and Nadal defeated Lleyton Hewitt 2-6, 6-3, 7-5. Nadal, No 2 in the world, extended his winning streak on clay to 81. — AP

Panesar wrecks WI

London: Monty Panesar took four wickets as West Indies declined to 217-5 at tea on the third day of the first Test against England at Lord’s. Left-arm spinner Panesar’s 4-52 was primarily responsible for leaving West Indies 336 behind England’s 553 for five declared. Shivnarine Chanderpaul was 26 not out and Dwayne Bravo 14 not out. Panesar, who’d bowled Devon Smith with his first ball of the morning session, had Ramnaresh Sarwan (35), Daren Ganga (49) and Runako Morton (14). England declared before play began on Saturday. That meant Matt Prior finished on 126 not out in his Test debut. Ian Bell was 109 not out. — AFP
