KATHMANDU: Young Heart and Ullens advanced to the senior boys’ section quarter-finals of the Wilson Hoops 2009 Inter-school Basketball Tournament here on Saturday. Young Heart beat Manju Shree 65-46 riding on Tashi Tshering’s 21 points, while Pujan Pokhrel scored 12 points in Ullen’s 45-41 win over Triyog. Gyanodaya and Triyog also made it to the last four as runners up. In the other match, Teresa beat Galaxy 59-44. — HNS

Referee Seminar held

KATHMANDU: Nepal Dandi-Biyo Association organised the Referee Seminar here on Saturday. A total of 35 national referees attended the one-day seminar. The seminar was organised to make the first Panther National Inter-Association Dandi-Biyo Tournament a success, said the association. The event is slated for June 6-11 in Kathmandu. — HNS

NFFAN triumph

Nepal Faith Forwarder Association of Nepal (NFFAN) defeated Hotel Marsyangdi 25-14, 25-20 to win the Friendship Corporate Volleyball Tournament organised by Export Council of Nepal here on Saturday. Dor Bahadur Gurung of NFFAN was declared the best player of the tournament. Nepal Handicraft Federation won the fair play award.— HNS


Genoa sign Crespo

ROME: Genoa have completed the signing of Inter Milan forward Hernan Crespo, the club’s president Enrico Preziosi said. Preziosi met with the 33-year-old Argentine’s agent Fernando Hidalgo in the afternoon and afterwards proclaimed Crespo as a Genoa player. Preziosi also claimed that the propsed signing of Inter’s Portugal winger Ricardo Quaresma was only a signature away. — AFP
