Int’l Open Marathon

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Athletic Club (KAC) is organising the International Open Marathon on November 18 in Kathmandu. The winner will be awarded with Rs 100,000 while the runners up will receive Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. The best among the Nepali marathoners will be selected for the Paris Marathon slated for April, the KAC president Mirgendra Misra said. The race will begin from Basantapur before culminating to the starting point. — HNS

Xavier’s comeback bid

MIDDLESBROUGH: Former Portugal international Abel Xavier has moved a step closer to resurrecting his career at Middlesbrough after serving a one-year ban for doping. Xavier, 33, became the first Premiership player to be banned for taking prohibited performance-enhancing drugs after testing positive for dianabol after a UEFA Cup match against Skoda Xanthi FC in Greece. — AFP
