Tristan in Mallorca :

MADRID: Former Spain striker Diego Tristan has agreed to join Mallorca, the club he represented from 1998-2000. Tristan had been out of contract since being released by Deportivo La Coruna at the end of last month after a six-year spell in which he made his name as one of Europe’s leading strikers. Tristan preferred a return to Mallorca to a more lucrative offer to join Charlton, sports daily Marca said. Mallorca, which has drawn its opening two games of the season, recently signed another former player, Argentine midfielder Ariel Ibagaza from Atletico Madrid. — AP

Torres extends deal :

MADRID: Fernando Torres has extended his contract with Atletico Madrid until 2009. Atletico said on Tuesday that Torres’ one-year extension marked “an important day for the club,” and that the team captain would sign in a week. Torres’ new contract is expected to put a brake on interest from several top European clubs. Manchester United and Inter Milan were said to have made approaches for Torres in the offseason. Torres led Spain’s attack at the World Cup and has scored 14 goals in 37 international matches. — AP
