Cole moves to Chelsea :

LONDON: Ashley Cole’s long drawn out move to Chelsea was finally completed minutes before the transfer window deadline passed on Thursday with French defender William Gallas going the other way to Arsenal. The two clubs issued a joint statement on Friday saying that the Gunners had accepted $9.5 million plus Gallas for the England leftback. — AP

Villarreal sign Fuentes :

MADRID: Villarreal has signed Argentine defender Fabricio Fuentes from Atlas of Mexico and French defender Pascal Cygan from Arsenal pending routine medical exams. Fuentes and Cygan will help the Spanish team replace Argentine Gonzalo Rodriguez, who injured his knee and will be sidelined most of the season. — AP
