ZURICH: Asafa Powell needed three days to get to this meet because of all the airline disruptions in Europe. When he finally arrived, he was as fast and flawless as ever. The Jamaican equaled his 100-meter world record at the Weltklasse Golden League meet on a balmy Friday night, the third time he has run the distance in 9.77 seconds. Diarra to join Real
MADRID: Real Madrid is set to sign Mali midfielder Mahamadou Diarra from Lyon. The Spanish club’s president, Ramon Calderon, announced the deal in an interview with Radio Marca on Friday, shortly after Lyon said that it has reached an agreement to trade Diarra to Madrid. Marca said Madrid would pay $33.3 million for the 25-year-old. — AP
Holyfield’s comeback
DALLAS: Evander Holyfield began his latest comeback looking a lot more like “The Real Deal” than he has in years. Holyfield rocked Jeremy Bates into the ropes late in the first round, withstood a few hard shots early in the second, then cornered and pummeled his insurance-salesman foe to earn a technical knockout with 4 seconds left in the round, capturing his first victory since June 2002. — AP
Andrade shares lead
Medinah: Billy Andrade shot a 3-under 69 and claimed a share of the lead on Friday after the second round of the 88th US PGA Championship. Andrade made a 30-foot birdie putt on the 18th to put him atop the leaderboard with Henrik Stenson of Sweden, Luke Donald of England and fellow American Tim Herron at 8-under 136. — AP
