NMBA wins triathlon :

KATHMANDU: Nepal Mountain Bike Tours (NMBA), led by national biker Suresh Dulal, won the Bagmati Eco Challenge Triathlon Competition here today. The competition started with a 14-km run followed by 22-km cycling before ending in a 7-km rafting. A team included six members — two runners, cyclists and rafters each. Ten teams took part in the challenge. NMBA competed the course in 3 hours, two minutes and 26 seconds. Nepal River Conservation Association had organised the event to mark the Bagmati River Festival 2006. — HNS

Basketball League :

KATHMANDU: The Ex-students of Lincoln School and Community & Social Service Volunteers are jointly organising the first Basketball League 2006 here on August 18-27. Top-ranked six teams recomended by Kathmandu Basketball Association were called for to participate in the league. As RIBS and Gyan Club opted out, five teams — Kathmandudes, Himalayan White House International College, Samakhusi Youth Club, Arniko School and South Siders — will vie for the championship. — HNS

Gyan, RIBS in final :

KATHMANDU: Gyan Niketan and RIBS entered the senior boys’ final at the Monsoon Meet Inter-school Basketball Tournament today. Gyan Niketan beat host Shridiwa 65-57 and RIBS defeated St Xavier’s 46-30 in the semi-finals. Shridiwa ousted Gyan Niketan 48-23 while Intensive beat St Xavier’s 20-4 in junior boys’ semi-finals. Gyan Niketan beat Rato Bangla (blue) 27-18, Rato Bangla (green) defeated Holy Garden 27-20, Alpha beat Shridiwa 40-6 and Gyanodaya dispatched HIMS 25-11 in the girls’ quarter-finals. — HNS
