Surrey sign Kumble
LONDON: India’s leading wicket-taker Anil Kumble signed with English county cricket club Surrey on Monday. The leg-spinner will play his first match against Somerset on Wednesday. He missed the start of the county season because he was playing in a four-Test series against West Indies in May and June before spending time with his wife and newborn baby. Kumble previously played for Northamptonshire and Leicestershire. — AP
Togo officials quit
LOME: Four members of Togo’s crisis-hit football federation (FTF) quit as the long-running over World Cup bonuses rumbled on. FTF secretary-general Espoir Komlan Assogbavi and vice-president Winny Dogbatse resigned “for the honour” of Togo football, Assogbavi said. “My three colleagues and I have decided to resign for the salvation and honour of our football,” he said. Togo spent their first ever WC campaign in Germany squabbling over money and even threatened to boycott a match unless the dispute was settled. — AFP
