Nepal face Singapore

KATHMANDU: Nepal will take on Singapore in its last Group ‘A’ match of the ACC U-15 Cup (Elite Group) cricket tournament at the Kelab Alam Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday. As both the teams are tied at 19 points from two games, the match would be the decider for them to qualify for the semi-finals. Nepal drew both of its previous matches against Malaysia and Hong Kong. Malaysia lead the group with 32 points while Hong Kong are at the bottom with seven points. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Nepal lost 0-4 against Portugal in the ninth round of the 37th Chess Olympiad in Turin, Italy on Wednesday. Bilam Lal Shrestha lost to 2467th rated International Master (IM) Fernando Diogo while Rajendrea Prasad Shrestha lost to 2405th rated IM Rocha Sergio. The 2371st rated Dias Paulo beat Badri Lal Nepali and Keshav Shrestha went down against 2543rd rated Grand Master Galego Luis. — HNS

Armstrong cleared

AMSTERDAM: Independent Dutch investigators cleared Lance Armstrong of doping in the 1999 Tour de France on Wednesday, and blamed anti-doping authorities for misconduct in dealing with the American cyclist. A report recommended convening a tribunal to discuss possible legal and ethical violations by the World Anti-Doping Agency and to consider “appropriate sanctions to remedy the violations.” — AP
