Friends beat RCT

KATHMANDU: Nirajan Malla scored twice as Friends Club defeated Ranipokhari Corner Team 2-1 in the Nepal Bank Junior (U-14) League Football on Saturday. Jagjit Shrestha pulled one back for RCT. In other matches, Machhindra Club beat Mahendra Police Club 2-1 while Suman Khadka scored a solitary goal as NRT defeated Gyanendra APF 1-0. Sushil Bista and Kusal Bhujel scored a goal each for Machhindra while Shyam Sundar Thapa scored for MPC. — HNS

Baluwatar Club win

KATHMANDU: Baluwatar Cricket Club registered a two-wicket win over Mahabir Club in the Yeti Cup Cricket Tournament held at the Tribbhuvan University Stadium on Saturday. Batting first Mahabir was bowled out for 118 in 36.3 overs. Baluwatar, chasina a revised target of 96 runs off 29 overs following the stoppage of the game due to the rain, achieved the target for the loss of eight wickets with eight balls to spare. — HNS

Condolence meet

KATHMANDU: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) paid tributes to its former president Nara Shumsher Rana. ANFA officials including president Ganesh Thapa, players, coaches and referees were present at the condelence meet organised on the 13th day of Rana’s demise. A mintue of silence was observed on the occasion. Meanwhile, Jawalakhel Youth Club also organised the condelence meet in memory of its founder. — HNS

Henry named PoY

LONDON: Arsenal captain Thierry Henry was named player of the year by English Premiership sponsors, Barclays. Henry is the leading scorer in English football with 24 goals. The France striker surpassed Cliff Bastin’s club goal-scoring record in October before going on to become the first Arsenal player to score 200 goals for the club, in February’s 2-0 away win at Birmingham. — AFP
