The announcement was made just before Charlton’s game against Blackburn. Curbishley is the second longest serving manager in the Premier League after Manchester United’s Alex Ferguson. He twice led Charlton to promotion and established the club as a regular mid-table Premier League team for the first time. Curbishley is seen as a contender for England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson’s job when the Swede quits after this year’s World Cup. — AP
