KATHMANDU: ANFA Academy (U-17) crushed Kanchanjungha Football Academy of Darjeeling 7-0 in the Mini SAARC Promotional U-19 Football Championship held at Gangtok, India on Thursday. MANCHESTER: Manchester United signed a four-year, $99.3 million, shirt sponsorship deal — a record in British soccer — with New York-based global insurance company, American International Group Inc. “This is a deal that is right for Manchester United and it underlines our position as the world’s leading club,” Man United’s chief executive David Gill said. AIG is among the world’s largest insurance companies. The deal extends the American influence on the storied club owned by American billionaire Malcolm Glazer. — AP

Allardyce fined
LONDON: Bolton manager Sam Allardyce was fined $ 3,506 by the Football Association on Thursday after admitting a charge of improper conduct. Allardyce was charged for comments made about referee Mike Riley after a 0-0 draw with Blackburn on January 14. Riley sent Hidestoshi Nakata off after 33 minutes following two yellow cards. “Hidestoshi Nakata committed three fouls and got sent off; Robbie Savage committed three fouls and didn’t get booked,” Allardyce said after the match. —AP
