Howell holds off Tiger

Shanghai: England’s David Howell held off Tiger Woods in the HSBC Champions, closing with a 4-under 68 for a 3-stroke win. Howell finished with 20-under 268 to claim the $833,300 cheque in the $5m event. Woods shot 70. Nick Dougherty of England tied for third with Australia’s Nick O’Hern at 14 under. Fiji’s Vijay Singh (69) and Danish Thomas Bjorn (70) finished at 13 under. —Agencies

Lincoln School win

KATHMANDU: Lincoln School defeated Gyanodaya School 72-44 in the final of the Inter-High School Basketball League Tournament, which was jointly organised by Lincoln School and CSSV, here today. Adrian Fishler of Lincoln top-scored with 26 points and had five assists and 15 rebounds. Bikash Serchan of Gyanodaya scored 24 points and had three assists. Om Shrestha of Rato Bangala, with an average of 19.5 points in six games, was declared the Most Valuable Player. Allan Bredy, director of Lincoln School, gave away the prizes. — HNS

5th AJS Volleyball Cup

KATHMANDU: Anal Jyoti School (AJS) is organising the fifth AJS Volleyball Tournament from December 4-10. Around 50 teams — including four from AJS — are expected to take part in boys, girls and mini (junior boys) sections, said the organisers at a press meet today. Tournament convenor Niraj Maharjan, AJS volleyball coach and national referee Narayan Thapa, AJS advisor Ganga Ram Maharjan and Nepal Volleyball Association member Pandu Shrestha were present on the occasion. — HNS
