Nikesh, Monalisa win

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Nikesh Duwal and Monalisa Khambu won one and drew another match at the Continental Asian Junior Chess Tournament in Colombo on Saturday. The 1750-rated Nikesh beat 1851-rated Sri Lankan Pinto Semuthu in the fourth round and played a draw against 1773-rated Munasinghe Shanka. In girls' section, Monalisa beat Sri Lankan Butawala Nethmi in the fourth round to earn the first point and played a draw against 1729-rated Wang Sin Jung of Taipei in the fifth round. Nikesh accumulated 2.5 points and Monalisa earned 1.5 points. — HNS

Shakya lifts trophy

KATHMANDU: Purna Man Shakya won the KEGG Cup golf tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club on Saturday. Shakya won the trophy on count back after he was tied with Wanchen Dhondup at 36 stableford points. Shakya had scored 18 on the back nine, while Dhondup got 16. Ang Tsering Sherpa finished third with 35 points. Dhondup carded four birdies to win the most birdies award. In all, 21 players took part in the tournament organised by Kathmandu Eager Golfers Group (KEGG). Gen Bindra gave away the prizes to the winners. — HNS

Shrestha confused

KATHMANDU: Peeyoosh Shrestha, former vice president of Saptari district Football Association, announced his candidacy for the post of district FA president. “The elections guidelines state that the district FA elections should be held from July 1-25. But I am confused where I can find the forms and where should register my candidacy,” said Shrestha. — HNS
