Edmilson joins Oita

TOKYO: Oita Trinita of Japan’s J-League division one announced on Wednesday they have acquired Brazilian midfielder Edmilson. Edmilson, 29, played for Oita in 2003 before returning to Brazil. Oita also announced it has released Brazilian forward Dodo, who had three goals in 15 games. Oita Trinita currently sit at 16th place in the 18-team J-League standings with 18 points after 18 matches. — AP

NZ, Australia win

PERTH: Pero Cameron, Phill Jones and Ed Book scored 13 points each to lead New Zealand to a 90-70 win over China on the opening night of the Four Nations invitational basketball tournament. Li Nan had 16 points for China while Du Feng added 13. Australia beat Lithuania 71-66 in the other match. Mark Worthington led Australia with 17 points while Mindaugas Lukauskis was Lithuania’s top scorer with 18 points. — AP
