TAC claim team championship

Kathmandu, April 6

Tribhuvan Army Club won the team championship trophy of the first Women’s International Taekwondo Tournament with six golds, two silvers and a bronze medal here today.

Another departmental side, Nepal APF Club finished second with two each gold and silver medals, while Eastern Region came third with one gold medal and two each silver and bronze. TAC won team poomsae gold finishing ahead of Central, while Rita Shrestha and Nita Gurung, both from Far-western Region, claimed gold and silver respectively in individual section.

In 67kg weight category final bout, TAC’s Namrata Tuladhar defeated Kamala Nepal of Mid-west, while Sandhya Singh of Eastern Region beat Muskan Karki of TAC in 62kg final. Likewise, Reshma Thapa of TAC defeated Sina Maden of Eastern Region in the 57kg final, whereas Shivani Thakur of India won the 53kg section gold medal with a victory over Nepal’s Kalpana Chaudhary.

Also, Yogmaya Shrestha of TAC defeated Sushila Budhathoki of Eastern Region in the 44kg final, while Dakshina Thakuri of APF beat Sina Shrestha of TAC in 42kg final. Kajol Shrestha of TAC won the below-46kg weight category gold with a victory over Kritika Thakur of India, while Asmita Khadka of APF defeated Sharada Dikshit of India in 49kg weight category.

TAC were declared the best in team poomsae, while Sharada Dikshit of India took the award in individual fight section. They received Rs 51,000 each. The two-day tournament was organised by Women Empowerment Committee of Nepal Taekwondo Association.
