TAC see off Far-west

Tribhuvan Army Club outplayed Far-west-XI 3-0 in penalty shootout and advanced to semi-finals of the Mechi Netralaya Kakarvitta Gold Cup Football Tournament in Mechinagar today.

The match went to tie breaker after both the teams were deadlocked at 1-1 in the regulation period. TAC’s Nawayug Shrestha, Santosh Tamang and Dipak Gurung scored from the spots, while skipper Bharat Khawas was denied by Far-west goalkeeper Ananta Sheikh. Chetan Tharu, Narendra Chaudhary and Rakesh Hamal failed to convert their shots for Far-west.

In the regulation period, TAC took the lead in the eighth minute through Dinesh Henjan’s goal before Far-west’s Jeevan Chaudhary levelled the scores in the 57th minute.

Although, TAC and Far-west scored a goal each before the penalties, both the teams wasted a couple of goal scoring chances. TAC skipper Khawas’ header was saved by Far-west goalie Sheikh, while the Army striker ended up hitting inches wide in the 18th minute.

Similarly, Far-west’s Chetan Tharu, Narendra Chaudhary, Bishnu Gurung and Philip Tamang failed to find the back of the nets. TAC’s Dinesh Henjan was adjudged the man-of-the-match and he got Rs 10,000.

On Tuesday, Himalayan Sherpa Club will take on Kakarvitta Football Club.
