TAC win team championship

Lalitpur, January 20

Tribhuvan Army Club won nine gold medals to claim the team championship of the National Taekwondo Tournament that concluded here at the Nepal Taekwondo Academy today.

TAC won seven gold, five silver and three bronze medals in the kyorugi event and also bagged two each gold and silver as well as one bronze in poomsae section.

Nepal Police Club finished second with six gold, four silver and three bronze in kyorugi along with two gold, one silver and two bronze medals in poomsae.

Nepal APF Club came third with two gold and three each silver and bronze medals in kyorugi as well as one gold and two bronze in poomsae.

The 12th South Asian Games bronze medallist Bir Bahadur Mahara of NPC and Ashmita Khadka of APF were named the best players in kyorugi section. Mahara won the below-63kg section gold medal, while Khadka bagged gold in the below-49kg weight category beating TAC’s Kajal Shrestha on the final day of the tournament.

Similarly, APF’s Nabin Shrestha, who won gold in men’s below-16 category, and TAC’s Nita Gurung, who bagged gold in women’s above-20 section, were adjudged the best players in poomsae. The best players got Rs 5,000 each.

Meanwhile, four other gold medals were also decided on the final day. The 12th SA Games silver medallist Nima Gurung defeated Eastern Region’s Sandhya Kumari Singh in the below-53kg category final, while TAC’s Kalpana Chaudhary won the below-46kg gold beating Sarita Shrestha of Western.

In men’s 58kg final match, TAC’s Sagar Gubhaju defeated Kapil Thapa of Central, while NPC’s Anoj Malla beat APF’s Chandra Rana Magar in the below-54kg weight category final.
