TU, Global advance to last eight

Tribhuvan University Central Campus and Global College advanced to the quarter-finals of the Sponsor University Cricket Cup Twenty20 Tournament here at the TU Stadium today.

Nepal Engineering Campus had a bad day as both of their teams faced defeats. TU defeated NEC ‘B’ by nine wickets, while Global thrashed NEC ‘A’ by 10 wickets in the opening day matches.

Opting to bat first, NEC ‘B’ were bowled out for 68 in 16.3 overs before TU scored 72-1 in 7.2 overs. Openers Pranshu Joshi (14) and Dipesh Das (11) scored in double figures for NEC ‘B’. Pradeep Tandon was the pick of the TU bowlers taking four wickets, while Rakesh Karn grabbed three. Sagar Dhakal took two and Rupesh Shrivastav claimed one wicket.

In reply, TU raced to victory riding on 14-ball 35 from Rakesh Karn and an unbeaten 17-ball 22 from Aschal Chaudhary. Karn hit three each fours and sixes, while Chaudhary cracked four boundaries. Bibek Yadubanshi picked up the only wicket for NEC ‘B’.

In another match, NEC ‘A’ managed 61 in 14.4 overs against Global, who raced to victory without losing a wicket in just 5.4 overs. Suraj Shrestha was the lone NEC ‘A’ batsman to score in double figures with 21-ball 22 hitting a boundary and two sixes. Bikram Gurung and Kanak Bajracharya claimed three wickets each for Global.

In reply, Dipesh Chand scored a quick fire 27-ball 52 with the help of nine boundaries and a six as Global reached the target with more than 14 overs to spare.

In all, 16 teams are taking part in the event organised by University Cricket Club.
