Tsering, Lama and Thapa among six to qualify for Club Golf C’ship

Kathmandu, October 27:

Tashi Tsering, Tashi Ghale, Kesang Lama, Wang Wi, Subodh Thapa and Suhrid Ghimire will represent the Le Meridien Golf Resort in the semi-final of the sixth McDowells’ Signature Club Golf Championship-2007.

The six golfers — five Nepalis and a Chinese — will represent the Nepali club for the first time in the history of the McDowells’ Signature Club Golf Championship through an intra-club qualifying round played here at the Le Meridien Gokarna Forest Golf Resort and Spa on today.

Tsering won the 0-8 handicap category played on gross stableford by finishing on 33 points while Ghale collected 29 points to finish second. Lama, the only lady to qualify, won in the 9-16 handicap category played on nett stableford 3/4 format with 37 points. Behind her was Wang with 32 points.

Subodh Thapa won the 17-24 handicap category played on nett stableford 3/4 format with 32 points while Suhrid Ghimire finished runner up with a point behind with 31.

The six-member club team will travel to Royal Calcutta Golf Club, Kolkata for the semi-finals scheduled for November 12. The winning club team in Kolkata qualifies to the grand finale to be held in Burapha Golf & Resort, Pattaya, Thailand on December 15.

Nepal Golf Association president Pradeep Kumar Shrestha, McDowell’s brand manager Dheeraj Dutta and president of Royal Nepal Golf Club Madhukar Yakthumba gave away prizes to the winners.

Other winners include Rabi Khadka (guest winner with 41 points), Rupak Acharya (guest runners-up with 36 points), Kesang Lama (Signature straightest drive on hole No 18), Rabi Khadka (Most birdies) and 17-year-old Norbu Tenzing (Best junior with 35 points).
