ITAHARI: The world ultra–marathon runner Mira Rai has been felicitated by the The Kirat Manch Nepal in Itahari of Sunsari district on Monday.

Former Minister and CPN Maoist Centre leader Gopal Kirati conferred the award and cash prize on the 29-year-old former Maoist soldier.

Leader Kirati handed over the cash prize of Rs Rs 50,000 along with an appreciation letter to Rai. “Her contribution to Nepal is highly commended,” applauded Kirati.

“A girl from the indigenous community has become a world class marathon runner to achieve a courageous feat of making Nepal popular,” said the former minister expressing his joy.

Rai is also the winner of National Geography Adventurer of the Year-2017 award.
