Volleyball League from Sept 6

KATHMANDU: Nepal Volleyball Association (NBA) is organising the first National Volleyball League here from September 6 to 12.

The league will see 10 men’s and six women’s teams taking on each other at the National Sports Council covered hall.

The men’s section includes teams from the five development regions, three security organs — Nepal Police Club, Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club and Tribhuvan Army Club — along with Jawalakhel Youth Club and Employment Creation Service (ECS) Club. The women’s league also features teams from five development regions and Nepal Police Club.

Selection tournaments were held from August 21 to 27 to pick the regional teams, said the NBA president Ganga Bahadur Thapa at a press meet here today.

League champions in the men’s section will receive Rs 80,000 and the runners up

will take home Rs 40,000.

Team finishing third and fourth will get Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.

Champions in the women’s league will earn Rs 50,000 while the second, third and fourth place finishers will get Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. The NBA announced the awards to best individuals — libero, blocker, setter, spiker. The organisers will also award best player and coach in both the sections apart from picking Fair Play Teams. The estimated cost of the event is Rs 2.54 million.
