Kathmandu, Sept 17

Wangchen Dhondup won the title of the first Opple Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, Dhondup accumulated 41 points to lift the trophy of the tournament sponsored by GP Trading Concern, a company part of Triveni Group.

The two-handicap amateur golfer carded five birdies — third, sixth, seventh, 10th and 14th — to claim the most birdies award as well. He received Opple gift voucher worth Rs 50,000 along with the trophy. Korean golfer PS Han finished runner-up with the score of 39 points.

Capt Norbu Sherpa won the gross section award with 34 points, while Maj Gen (retd) Mahesh Bikram Karki accumulated 36 points to finish first in senior category, ahead of Maj Gen (retd) Daman Bahadur Ghale who came second with 33 points. Rekha Ghimire won the women’s section title with 35 points, while Devasri Rana claimed the junior category award with 38 points. Sonam Norbu Lama and Phunshok Lama bagged the closest-to-the-pin and longest drive awards respectively.

A total of 80 golfers participated in the one-day tournament. Directors of Triveni Group Sailesh Sanghai and Rashi Sanghai, President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire and Captain Joseph Nathan handed over the prizes to the winners.
