West Indies level ODI series

GUYANA: West Indies earned a four-wicket win over Zimbabwe in the second one-day international (ODI) to level up the series at 1-1 here today.

Half-centuries from Chris Gayle and Narsingh Deonarine contributed to the impressive victory. Gayle hit 88 off 111 balls and Deonarine 65 not out off 85 as the hosts reached 208-6 in response to the tourists' 206 all out. Gayle hit seven fours and two sixes as the Windies

won with 13 balls to spare. Gayle earlier made an impact with the ball, taking 1-25 off 10 overs.

Spin bowler Nikita Miller took four wickets and two catches for the Windies, while Brendan Taylor scored 47 off 66 and Elton Chigumbura 50 off 72 as the Zimbabweans found themselves all out with one ball to go. Zimbabwe's Raymond Price removed partners Adrian Barath (seven) and David Bernard (one), while Shivnarine Chanderpaul (10) and Andre Fletcher (nought) also fell cheaply.

But the tourists had no response to Gayle's hitting, and once Deonarine joined him at the crease, the pair helped the Windies to a tally of 168-4. Gayle finally fell to Graeme Cremer and Kieron Pollard also departed, but Deonarine guided them home, finishing with six fours and one six.
