West Indies take 2-0 lead
St John’s, May 1:
Jerome Taylor took a career-best 4-24 and paced the West Indies to a 98-run victory over Zimbabwe in their second one-day international on Sunday.
Zimbabwe, chasing a victory target of 243, were routed for 144 off 46.2 overs. Justice Chibhabha top-scored with a 67.
The West Indies totalled 242/9, led by 55 from Ramnaresh Sarwan. Opener Chris Gayle hit 49 and Shivnarine Chanderpaul compiled 46. Tawanda Mupariwa took a career-best 3-46, including the wicket of captain Brian Lara (5).
Taylor subdued Zimbabwe’s chances by reducing them to 11/3 before the end of the sixth over. Justice Chibhabha dominated a restorative stand of 64 with Elton Chigumbura that helped revive the innings. But once Chigumbura (13) edged to Chris Gayle at first slip and Gregory Strydom ran himself out, the challenge faded.
