KATHMANDU: Western Region defeated Central Region 25-21, 25-20, 25-21 in the men's volleyball final at the National Sports Tournament organised by PLA Sports Club here today.

In the third-place play-off, Majdur Sahid Smriti Club beat Far-western Region 25-23, 26-24, 25-18, while Far-western Region finished third in the women's section with a 25-19, 21-25, 18-25, 25-14, 18-16 victory over Central Region. The women's final between PLA (red) and Western Region is slated for Friday.

In men's football, Western Region and Majdur Club made it to the final. Western laboured to a 4-3 win over Mid Western in tiebreaker after a goalless stalemate. Majdur Club eased past PLA (red) 4-0. Jiven Sinkeman scored a brace while Raj Kumar Ghising and Jitendra Karki added one goal apiece. Raj Kumar gave Majdur the third minute lead before Jivan added two more in the 10th and 43rd minute. Jitendra completed the rout adding the fourth in the 65th minute.

Also making it to the final in the women's football were hosts PLA (red) and Eastern Region. PLA (red) defeated Central Region 2-0 on goals from Lila Pandey and Sapana Shila Magar. Lila put the PLA ahead in the 14th minute before Sapana added the second in the 44th minute.

In the second semi-final, Eastern Region saw off PLA (blue) 3-1. Sapana Kunwar gave Eastern the lead in the 37th while an own goal from PLA (blue) put them 2-0 ahead. Rupa Malla pulled back one for the PLA (blue) in the 59th minute before Sangita Magar sealed the victory for the Eastern in the 68th minute to set championship date with PLA (red).
