Winners of short distance races announced

Kathmandu, September 24:

The organisers of the Real second Kathmandu International Marathon announced the winners of the short distance races here today.

The September 20 event was marred by poor management leading to indecision over the winners of eight events — Men and Women’s 5km, Veteran Men and Women’s 5km, Girls and Boys’ 5km, and Men and Women’s 3km Wheel Chair race. Only marathon and half marathon winners were declared on the day.

The organisers, Nepal Marathon Pvt Ltd, had said they would make public the winners after investigating the facts about the incidents.

The winners announced today were Hari Kumar Rimal and Surya Maya Rai in Men and Women’s 5km Open, Deepak Deshar and Sunita Gautam in 5km School-level Boys and Girls’ Section, Ram Krishna Maharjan and Sanu Nani Shakya in 5km Veteran Men and Women’s section, and Bharat Bikram Baniya and Gita Limbu in 3km Wheel Chair race. Top three winners in all the eight categories announced today will receive cash prizes.

Uttam Khatri Nepal Army had won the marathon in 2 hours, 27 minutes and 33 seconds ahead of fellow armyman Arjun Basnet (2:28:44). Top 10 marathoners will receive cash prizes.

Bhumi Raj Rai of Nepal Police Club had claimed the men’s while Kanchi Maya Koju had won the women’s half marathon. Winners of all the 11 events will be awarded at the Army Officers’ Club on October 30.
