World 109 beats Nadal in pre-French Open match

PARIS: World number one Rafael Nadal, seeking a record fifth successive Roland Garros title, was beaten in a one-set exhibition match here on Saturday by a little-known Argentinian ranked 109th in the world.

Nadal, who has never lost an official match at the French Open, went down 7-5 to Brian Dabul on the eve of the tournament in front of stands that were packed despite light drizzle in the French capital.

The 22-year-old Spaniard, who has six Grand Slam singles titles to his name and enjoys the enviable Roland Garros record of 28 wins from 28 matches, faces qualifier Marcos Daniel of Brazil in the first round.
