Yak Attack from Wednesday

KATHMANDU: Extreme World Challenges UK, Dawn Till Dusk Mountain Bike Trekking Pvt Ltd and Nepal Cycling Association (NCA) are jointly organising the third Berghaus Yak Attack in Lamjung from May 27 to June 2.

A total of 22 cyclists — 16 from Nepal and six from abroad — will compete in the weeklong championship that begins from Besisahar and passes through Manang, Mustang before culminating at Khaniyaghat of Mgyadi district, said Nepal Cycling Association in a press

release on Monday. The cyclists will have to cover a total distance of 227 kilometres.

Kaji Sherpa, who has successfully scaled the Mount Everst twice, is the defending champion. Among the notable participants this time around will be the three-time winner of the Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon and the winner of the Yeti Duatholon 2008 Deepak Rai, informed NCA president Chhimi Urkyen Gurung. Winner of the mountain bike championship during the fifth National Games Ajay Pandit and Nirjala Tamrakar will also take part in the event.

Apart from the overall winner, the organisers will also award the series champions every day. Winners of each day will receive $100 while the overall winner will get $500. The objective of the event is to promote tourism through extreme sports, the organiser added.
