Yellers win opener
Kathmandu, January 20:
Yeti Airlines Yellers defeated Kantipur Killers by three wickets in the inaugural Dabur Chayawanprash Pro-40 Cricket Cricket Tournament here at the Tribhuvan University Stadium today.
Electing to bat first, Kantipur Killers were restricted for 47 runs in 18.1 overs. Manjeet top-scored with 11 runs for Killers in the match that was reduced to 30 overs from 40. Shakti Gauchan contributed 10 and Yaswant Subedi seven. Kalam Ali took 3-11 from six overs and Dipendra Chaudhary 3-13 off three overs for Yellers. Allrounder Mehboob Alam (2-10) claimed two and Raju Basnet (1-02) one wicket.
Despite the meagre 48-run target, Yeti Airlines Yellers had tough time chasing the total. Yellers scored 51 but not before losing their seven wickets. Paresh Lohan scored a patient 17 off 34 deliveries while Dipendra Chaudhary remained unbeaten on 11. Alam also chipped in eight runs.
Man of the match Kundan Singh of Kantipur Killers bowled a fiery spell to make the Killers’ run chase difficult. Singh returned with 5-09 from six overs. Shakti Gauchan also bowled a tidy six overs taking one wicket while conceding just three runs in his six-over spell.
In all four teams — Kantipur Killers, Yeti Airlines Yellers, VOITH Victors and Shangri-La Sharks — are taking part in the tournament organised jointly by the Amateur Cricketers’ Association of Nepal (ACAN) and Shangri-La Cricket Academy.
The first of its kind in Nepal, the professional tournament requires at least two U-15 and four U-19 cricketers in each team. The senior players will receive Rs 7,00 match money in every match they play while U-19 and U-15 players will get Rs 6,00 and Rs 500 respectively. Each team will play three matches and the top two teams will play for the championship on Saturday.
