Zhang wins gold at table tennis WC

YOKOHAMA: Olympic champion Zhang Yining of China defeated defending champion and compatriot Guo Yue in six sets Tuesday to win women's singles title at the table tennis world championships.

The top-seeded Zhang recovered from a two-set deficit for a 10-12, 3-11, 11-2, 11-7, 11-7, 11-9 win over the second-seeded Guo at Yokohama Arena.

China won all gold medals on offer at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and is assured of sweeping the podium here in both men's and women's singles.

Wang Liqin, who upset Olympic gold medalist Ma Lin in the semifinals Monday, faces top-seeded Wang Hao in an all-Chinese men's singles final later Tuesday.
