Shopping in Bhaktapur made easier

Bhaktapur

Supermarkets can be found in most places around Kathmandu but it’s not the same in the case of Bhaktapur.

However, with time things are changing and modern day markets are cropping up here. The recent addition is the Tourism Market at Suryavinayak. Here you can get everything for your household and for your family members. Featuring ample parking space and eateries, you get a pleasant shopping experience here.

One of a kind

It’s been around a year since the Tourism Market opened at Suryavinayak, Ram Mandir and it is now fully functional. The building got a green card after the April 25 earthquake — and has been operating smoothly.

According to Rama Shrestha, owner of RB Fashion Wear, the surrounding area that was just fields used to be dirty earlier and unappealing. "But with the Tourism Market, the area's look has changed. It’s much better and there is more flow of people here."

The building has 46 stores featuring a variety of goods from ready-made fancy clothes for all age groups to traditional wears, cycles, shoes, accessories, toys, beauty parlour, eateries, party palace, department store, among others.

So, what is its best feature? Rajbhandari claimed, "Under one roof you will get everything you need, from grocery to clothing and more. You need not worry about parking space and as the market is not so crowded, you can shop with ease. It’s one-of-a-kind in Bhaktapur.”

At the stores

The back of the building features stores dealing with clothing for men, women and children along with shoes, bags and accessories as well as eateries.

Climbing the stairs from here and you will reach the ground floor — there are more stores dealing in clothes, shoes, toys, bicycles and more. At one of the stores RB Fashion Wear, you can get trendy as well as traditional clothes for ladies.

According to Shrestha, the fancy ready-made items are bought from local wholesale markets while the traditional wears are bought from Delhi, India. Here you can get up to 20 per cent discount.

Meanwhile, at Ajima Collection there are varieties for ladies and children — shoes, bags, toys and more — all brought from local wholesale markets. Here you can get 20-25 per cent discount.

Then there is Sakha Multi Store on the first floor — more than 10,000 items are on display at this departmental store — grocery items, cosmetics, baby items, gift items, kitchenware, liquor and so on.

There is a scheme for customers too. Ram Kaji Ranjitkar, Supervisor of the Store informed, “Currently there is Monsoon Offer — a customer who purchases goods worth Rs 2,500 or above can get a LED bulb for free. The offer is valid till September 17.”

A regular customer at the store Shree Prasad Koju shared, “We now have easy access to things and the store is convenient and you get everything under one roof. Also the store provides us with free delivery. If we make request for  things not on display, the store makes it available in a few days. Shopping at Bhaktapur is easy now due to this Market."
