10,000 dengue cases in S’pore

Singapore, September 19:

Singapore said today dengue infections in the city-state has reached a new all-time high of 10,237 this year, and warned that authorities were prepared to enter and inspect vacant private premises for mosquito breeding sites, even without permission, to arrest the rising numbers. Environment Minister Yaacob Ibrahim said the new record number of cases up to September 17 surpassed the total for all of 2004 — 9,459. Singapore has committed $18 million to battle the outbreak.
