13 of a family killed in Karachi landslide

ISLAMABAD: At least 13 people, including seven children, of the same family were killed in a landslide that buried three camps in the slums in Karachi on Tuesday morning. The incident took place at around 2:00am when a mass of rocks and soil fell on a slum from a nearby hill, burying three camps of a labourers’ family in Gulstan-e-Jauhar area of Karachi, local media reported. Rescue efforts are under way as it is feared that at least three more people are still trapped under the rubble. Commissioner of Karachi city, Shoaib Siddiqui, said all the deceased belonged to the same family that established their camps at the site three days ago. The ill-fated family came from the eastern province of Punjab, he said.
