Colombo, April 27:
At least 35 people were killed and several seriously injured after a passenger train rammed into a bus at a railway crossing in Sri Lanka today, Xinhua reported. The intercity train travelling from here to the central province town of Kandy collided with a passenger
bus near Alawwa, 65 km northeast of Colombo this morning, police said.
A lot of office goers and school children travel by the train, the railway control tower here said.
Police at Alawwa said the accident was caused by the carelessness of the bus driver who drove his vehicle through the level crossing even though the barrier was closed.
The bus carrying some 70 passengers was on its way to Colombo from the north central town of Anuradhapura.
