Authorities had announced on Friday that it was mandatory for travelers from 67 Omicron affected countries to stay in hotel quarantine

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 18

The Government of Nepal has revised its decision to impose seven-day hotel quarantine on travelers arriving here from 67 countries.

As per a notice issued by Department of Immigration on Saturday, it was mandatory for travelers entering Nepal from 67 countries where the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 has vastly spread, to go into a seven-day hotel quarantine on arrival.

However, the department, issuing another notice on Saturday, said that the aforementioned decision has been stalled until further notice.

The now-suspended decision provisioned the travelers to take a coronavirus test at the end of the hotel quarantine and further stay home for seven more days upon testing negative, or move to an isolation centre or designated hospital in case they tested nagative.

Likewise, hthe cost incurred duing the hotel-quarantine period was also supposed to be taken care of by the travelers themselves.

Nepal government had decided to take the aforementioned measure in the wake of increase in reported number of Omicron cases in neighbouring countries including India.
