Colombia's police chief resigns amid sexual misconduct probe

BOGOTA: The head of Colombia's police is resigning amid accusations of illegal enrichment and sexual misconduct with young cadets.

Gen. Rodolfo Palomino's resignation Wednesday comes a day after Colombia's inspector general opened an administrative probe into the accusations, which surfaced in the media late last year.

Palomino reiterated his innocence at a press conference and said the charges are an attempt by his enemies to slander his good name and four decades of work in the police.

Authorities are probing how Palomino was able to afford a luxury home outside Bogota on his police salary.

He's also been accused by a subaltern of abusing his position to demand sexual favors and partaking in a male prostitution ring in which cadets were forced to cater to high-ranking officers.
