Dutt trial: Bombers’ kin protest ‘leniency’
Mumbai, February 6:
Protests erupted outside a court today over alleged leniency for a Bollywood star, one of scores convicted last year for deadly bomb attacks in Mumbai more than a decade ago.
At least 25 demonstrators were detained outside the anti-terror court. They were among over 60 people protesting that celebrity Sanjay Dutt is being let off lightly compared to their relatives who were found guilty in India’s biggest terrorism case. At least 69 of the 100 convicted have filed applications in the court, demanding “equal treatment” and the dropping of charges of involvement in terrorist activities. The court will announce a verdict on Dutt’s bail extension tomorrow, his lawyers said.
