Former Ecuador President Duran-Ballen dies at age 95

QUITO:Duran-Ballen's family said he died Tuesday while resting at home. The family said he did not have any major illness.

He was president in 1992-96, and the localised border conflict with Peru occurred in Jan. 26-Feburary 28, 1995. It ended with a cease-fire and eventually an agreement was reached demarcating the disputed border.

Duran-Ballen retired from politics after his presidency.

He is survived by his wife, Josefina Villalobos, with whom he had eight children. He was born in Boston on July 14, 1921, while his father was on a diplomatic mission.
