KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 15
The Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens has directed all non-governmental organisations receiving conditional grant for the fiscal 2022-23 to submit their respective progress reports.
The MoWCSC had provided a total of 62.8 million to 92 NGOs in conditional grants through the local levels for conducting various programmes for the welfare of differently-abled people across the country. The NGOs were selected on merit basis as part of conditional grant. The amount ranges from Rs 500,000 to Rs 4 million depending on the service they offer to differently-abled persons in a bid to bring about positive changes in their lives. The MoWCSC provids fund to not-for-profit organisations to run various programmes that exclusively focus on differently-abled persons.
In a recently release report, the MoWCSC said the grants should be utilised for increasing the access of differently-abled persons to employment opportunities by providing them skills, training and necessary socialsecurity. The grant amount was also based on the programmes developed by the organisations and approved by the government.
The grants cover the programmes of the NGOs for the benefit of differently-abled persons. The government will initiate the process of sanctioning the budget once the interested NGOs submit an application with a proposal of activities and programmes to the concerned local level.
The MoWCSC said the grants should be spent only for the purpose for which it was provided by the government.
The NGOs receiving the grants will be required to operate programmes that deliver services to the target groups. The grant amount will be provided through banking channel.
The local levels concerned have been mandated to carry out monitoring and evaluation to ascertain whether the NGOs have utilised the grants. If the NGOs are found to have misused the grant, the MoWCSC may blacklist them, prohibit the sale or transfer of its tangible and intangible assets, and freeze the bank account for further action.
