LUCKNOW: With temperatures touching 49 degrees Celsius, Uttar Pradesh’s hottest summer in 100 years has taken a fresh toll of 42 lives, an official spokesperson said on Monday. Said meteorological department chief RK Verma: “This kind of heat has not been experienced by the state in the past 100 years.†He said the monsoon alone could bring some respite. — AFP
