New Delhi, June 10:

The Lok Sabha closed today till the budget session after passing a motion of thanks on president APJ Abdul Kalam’s address by a voice vote, with opposition protests stalling any debate. After the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) protests against “tainted” ministers in the government had crippled business for two straight days, both the houses of parliament passed the motion of thanks by voice vote. The Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament, adjourned sine die moments after that, as the opposition benches started shouting slogans demanding the sacking of ministers in prime minister Manmohan Singh’s government who have been charged in criminal cases. The nine-day session saw the election of the speaker and the deputy speaker besides the oath taking of new MPs.
