Beijing: Three American crew members were killed and four other crew were injured when a cargo plane crashed during take-off in Shanghai today, officials said. The accident happened at 7:40 am (1140 GMT) as the Zimbabwe-registered MD-11 aircraft was attempting to leave Shanghai Pudong International Airport for Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan, Xinhua news agency reported. The death of the Americans was confirmed by the US embassy.
Bus blaze claims 10
BEIJING: Ten passengers died on Saturday when a bus caught caught fire in China's northeastern province of Heilongjiang, the Xinhua news agency reported. The agency cited emergency officials in Zhaoyuan county as saying the driver of the bus had detected something wrong and stopped the vehicle before the blaze broke out. Seven people managed to escape the bus, which had been in operation for only one month.
Hajj pilgrim dies
MECCA: An elderly Pakistani has died from swine flu in Saudi Arabia where he was participating in the hajj pilgrimage, Saudi authorities said on Saturday. The 70-year-old man had already been suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes when he was hospitalised with the A(H1N1) virus, the health ministry said in a statement on the official SPA news agency. The death, whose date was not given, was the fifth from swine flu among some 2.3 million pilgrims taking part in the annual hajj in the Muslim holy city of Mecca this week.
