Karachi, June 9:

A senior Kashmiri separatist leader today said that attempts by the UN to resolve the Kashmir dispute have failed. During a visit to Pakistan, Umar Farooq, chief of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, said it was time to consider “new ide-as and proposals” to settle the issue. The UN passed resolutions in 1948 and 1949 calling for Kashmiris to vote on whether to join India or Pakistan. However, the resolutions were never implemented because of India’s objections.
