Pakistan floods displace thousands
Lahore, August 5:
Officials in Pakistan say floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains have destroyed thousands of homes and caused at least 27 deaths.
Punjab relief commissioner Mohammed Sajjad said today 82,000 people have been displaced in the eastern province.
The worst affected districts were Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan.
He said over 3,200 homes were destroyed and vast areas of agricultural land were inundated.
Officials reported five people had died in Punjab and 22 more in Pakistan’s northwest since yesterday.
Dawn News TV reported the impact of the floods was greater than official reports suggested and that hundreds of thousands were displaced.
