Palestinian polls

RAMALLAH: The Palestinian general elections called for January will have to be postponed because the vote cannot take place in Hamas-ruled Gaza at that time, the electoral commission said on Thursday. “I regret to say it is unfortunate that the elections will be postponed” indefinitely, Hanna Nasser, chief of the commission, told reporters. “It has become clear to us that conducting elections in the Gaza Strip is not likely to happen,” he said. Parliamentary and presidential elections had initially been scheduled to be held on January 24.
